Whilst being a member of SSAGO, I have been a member of Bath BUGS, Oxford, and now find myself as an Indie member. Whilst being a member of BUGS, I was Secretary and Chair, and chaired Bath Masked Ball, so am not shy of responsibilities and enjoy taking on roles representing my peers. I currently volunteer for both Girlguiding and Scouting, as well as volunteering at various national Girlguiding and Scouting events.
As Indie Rep, I would look forward to supporting Indie members across the country. This would include ensuring Indie members feel a part of SSAGO, for example, by helping members get to National Events and keeping everyone updated with all the latest Indie and SSAGO news. I would like to encourage Indie members who are studying near each other to get in touch, perhaps by working with the Webmaster to form a map of members to see who and where our current Indie members are. I will promote regional events to Indie members, and will look into starting Indie events, connecting nearby members. I would then hope to develop this and perhaps in the future we might see our own Indie Summer Camp!
At the beginning of the academic year, I will be very proactive in promoting SSAGO to students who are interested in getting involved but who do not have a club, so will try to make them feel welcome and included, being the friendly face for all Indie members, old or new.
In the future, I hope I will be lucky enough to work with the current Membership Officer to form new clubs, and help support those Indie members who are at a university without a club who like to start one up!
An important role of Indie rep is to attend reps meetings, feedback to Indie members and then vote on SSAGO matters. I would look forward to representing the views of this membership, and am more than happy to raise any concerns to the SSAGO Exec, as well as any suggestions or ways SSAGO could run more smoothly for its Indie membership.
